Empowering Creators with Media Manager

First on the docket is the development of Media Manager, a tool designed to give creators and content owners unprecedented control over how their works are utilised in AI research and training. Slated for release by 2025, this initiative represents OpenAI’s commitment to navigating the complex terrain of intellectual property rights within the realm of AI. Through Media Manager, creators can identify their works and specify preferences for their inclusion or exclusion in AI training datasets, marking a pioneering effort to reconcile AI development with copyright respect.

This move comes as a response to growing criticism and legal actions against OpenAI, notably a lawsuit from eight U.S. newspapers alleging IP infringement through the company’s use of copyrighted articles to train generative AI models.
